Confession - I don't like playing. My mind wanders and I can't focus on the game at hand - usually 'mummies and daddies'. I've never had a child of this age (3.5) at home full time by themselves before. There's always been at least one other sibling for them to play with, or preschool to break up the week.
Lucy, on the other hand, adores playing, and would love me to play mums and dads all day long. It's her favourite, and I do find it hard to resist her plaintive 'please, mummy...'.
Today I made a resolution that I would play with her completely for at least an hour - and then hit upon a good compromise - we decided to wash the dolls' clothes. She had great fun getting wet, even if I ended up doing the actual washing. We also gave most of her dolls a bath too.
And since her doll clothes box is overflowing, I decided that we could sort out the (mostly empty) drawers in her chest of drawers so we can keep the nice clean dolly clothes in there!
Happy me and happy Lucy!

A good day for washing

I don't really like playing with my kids either. It sounds so horrible to say. One thing I've done when I'm in the garden is "make soup" with them. A big bucket filled with water and add weeds just pulled. Fun!
ReplyDeleteOh, so nice to hear you say that, Sarah! Glad I'm not alone.....
DeleteWe've done the garden soup thing too - the big kids like this too :-)
I know how you feel. We even considered having a fourth child just so #3 would have someone to play with, ha! However I said 'he can play with me' which I suppose is easier than another child... I do best when we go out somewhere together, like the Botanic Gardens, or when we bake. Not so good at sustained colouring or trainset etc! Sweet pic with all the dolly clothes on the line :)
ReplyDeleteI start a game and then slowly wander off....thats works well!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo!
By the time we got to #3 and #4, I was over playing. I'll play outside with BK when the weather's nice but inside play...not my fave.;)
ReplyDeleteCombining pretending and getting something accomplished sounds like a happy compromise! I love the ICD she's wearing.
Oh, I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one. I have an attention span that's approximately 3 minutes long when it comes to playing...and then I just feel bad about it!
